"Pink Slime" or red algae is not an algae, it is a bacteria and therefore algaecides can't be used to destroy them.  The correct method of destroying the "pink" bacteria is superchlorination and using GLB Vanquish and Natural Chemistry Pool Perfect Concentrate.

Slimes are usually found in Biguanide treated pools and are very difficult to kill.  Superchlorination is not possible in a Biguanide treated pool so the use of vanquish is the only viable option.

Slimes grow especially in the plumbing and filter of the pool and also behind the pool light and under the ladder treads.  Check anywhere there is shade or low water flow.
