  2. Shut off pool pump.
  3. Close skimmer and main drain valves.
  4. Open air relief valve on top of the pool filter.
  5. Make sure the pressure is equalized in the filter and no noise can be heard from the air relief valve.
  6. Disassemble the pool filter and remove the filter cartridge(s).
  7. Use a garden hose and a nozzle and spray the filter cartridge out thoroughly.
  8. The filter cartridge may be soaked in a special cleaning solution made for cartridge filters if desired.
  9. Do not use soap or any other cleaning agent on the cartridge.  Do not clean the cartridge in the dish washer or at a high power car wash.
  10. Some customers choose to purchase a spare cartridge and simply swap the cartridges and clean the dirty one at their convenience.
  11. If the cartridge is excessively dirty or does not clean up very well, is frayed or torn, it will need to be replaced.
  12. Install the cleaned or new replacement cartridge back in the filter assembly and secure the filter according to the owners manual for the filter model.
  13. Make certain the filter is properly re-assembled and secure.
  14. Open the air relief valve on the top of the filter.
  15. Turn on the pool pump and open the main drain valve.
  16. Once there is good water flow in the pump, open the remaining skimmer valves fully.
  17. When a steady stream of water is discharged out of the air relief valve on the filter, it may be closed.
  18. The pool heater and pool cleaner pump may be turned back on if desired.
  19. Test and adjust the pool water chemistry.
